Eligibility, Acceptance and Enrollment

Eligibility & Nomination

The Garfield School District accepts nominations for the Gifted & Talented Program throughout the school year.  Teachers and parents are able to nominate a student for enrollment by using the nomination link in the menu to the left.  A potential student can be nominated and may be found eligible if they are Exceeding Standards or Meeting Standards in all the core subject areas as well as their work study skills.

Nominations initiate the review process which utilizes a matrix to determine eligibility.  Multiple measures are used to evaluate whether or not the student meets the requirements of the traits in the areas of measure.  If a student meets the criteria for acceptance, a formal letter will be sent to the parents/guardians, the principal of the school, and to the homeroom teacher confirming acceptance into the program.

Enrollment is finalized when the parent/guardian completes the Parent Permission Form in full and submits it to Ms. DeWitt.  Upon receipt of the completed form, the student will be placed into a group to attend the program on a rotating basis. The group number and schedule will be provided to the parents/guardians, the student, the principal of the school, and the homeroom teacher.
